The Soul Has a Share in Eternity

A human being is a citizen of two worlds. Their soul entered this earthly existence from eternity, and it is spiritual in nature. When a human being dies, their soul returns to eternity. Every human being thus carries eternal qualities within themselves and is connected with the world beyond. In earthly life, however, each individual decides for themselves whether they want to cultivate this eternity-consciousness and forge a stronger bond with the spiritual world.

Lene: God bless you. Dear brothers and sisters, it is through the wish and will of God that the earth came into being and that spirits were incarnated in order to dwell on this earth. From that moment on, eternity established a connection with this God-willed world. It is through the wish and will of God that it came into existence, and through his will spirits were incarnated. They all carry eternal qualities within themselves. Everything that came into being through God’s wish and will and that has to live on this earth remains intimately connected with eternity.

Eternity flows down with its power to the earth, to human beings. At one time the connection was established. Already back then there was a descending and an upward flight to the heavens. For that which carries eternal worth within itself is related to the divine, is connected with God, and really cannot be entirely abandoned by him. This earth should be a piece of heaven, a piece of paradise. And the human beings who have lived and who still live on it have a connection to eternity. They still have these eternal qualities within themselves; they are connected to that which is most holy, to that which is eternal. But it is up to human beings to remain in contact with that which is most holy – that is, if they still sense eternity around and within themselves, if they still know something of eternity, if they would like to know of it.

How, then, did it come to be that people distanced themselves from eternity? The human beings who lived on earth at that time had ample opportunity to find their way to God. The angels of God drew close and spoke with them. They spoke a clear language, but human beings had their own will, they made their own demands of the world in which they lived. They had the opportunity to make the bond with eternity more intimate, more intense, or to turn away from it.

They could make the wall that was their earthly body – this obstacle hindering their access to eternity – even more dense. They could, if they wanted, shut themselves in even more, turn even further away from eternity.

It eventually reached the stage where people began to forget eternity, and they also forgot to tell their descendants about it. For some, eternity fell ever more into oblivion – the path linking them to God became ever longer. Their eternity-consciousness slowly faded away. But not in all cases – fortunately, there were people faithful to God, devout people. Soon after human beings began living here on this earth, a battle began. They had closed their thoughts, their environment; they had shut themselves in and were no longer so accessible to eternity. And yet this world was supposed to become a piece of heaven, a piece of paradise. And what has become of it? What is the state of humankind’s connection to eternity today? What do people sense in their innermost being? Do they still have an eternity-consciousness?

Far removed from eternity do the people of today live in this world, and just consider all that eternity lets flow to humankind, all that it pours out, all that it calls out! But human beings have shut themselves in; they have turned away from eternity and built a world for themselves. This eternity has been forgotten.

Today, those human beings who live in deep faith and in eternity-consciousness have a battle helping others understand that there is an eternity, that they have come from it and will return to it. Some of them are fighting a battle, and this battle will continue. It will end in victory – but we cannot say when this will be. The battle will be hard, it will be arduous, for eternity-consciousness has been lost. How painful it is for the believer to know: “There is divine consciousness within me; I am a part of eternity. And my fellow human beings want to know nothing of this eternity – it is lost to them.”

Let us consider the world of today. Still today, the current of eternity flows and flows down, and fills this earth and everything that lives here with blessings. And is it received as such? Is what comes received as God’s gift and as God’s word? No – you know this better than I do. Lost is this valuable asset, the eternal consciousness, which human beings should carry with them from life to life. It has been lost. One must go in search, one must find it again, one must reclaim it.

Time and again the wonderful divine language rings out from the heavens – the word of God is proclaimed time and again. Eternity speaks the languages of all peoples. Human beings speak so many languages, but in essence there is only one language that all understand and that leads to God. So, human beings will indeed have to change again and turn toward the divine. They will have to listen more attentively. One’s sensitivity should be cultivated, and it should emanate out from the heart to human beings. The words one speaks ought to be a song for one’s neighbor, a lovely song. One should be able to joyfully and delightfully proclaim heaven’s message of greeting to one’s fellow human beings.

The person who lives in God-consciousness really should have a different relationship to their fellow human beings, to nature, and to all life in general. They ought to understand and grasp why the little healing herb grows by the wayside and what it should mean to them. Or, dear friends, have you come to the point where you believe this little healing herb by the wayside no longer has its significance? Have you condensed everything in your world so much, locked it up to such an extent? Are you no longer able to hear the wonderful language of God that is spoken? Are you no longer able to experience the true stillness of the night? Has it disappeared, the stillness of the night?

What does the stillness of the night have to say to human beings? Only those who have opened their spiritual ear know that the stillness of the night is utilized by the holy ones of heaven. For it is precisely the stillness of the night that enables the angels of heaven to find their way to human beings, to sick human beings, in order to give them comfort from the divine realm. Do you still have this stillness of the night? What about paradise in this world? Or am I wrong in saying this earth should be a piece of heaven, a piece of paradise? Do you no longer know the calm of evening, its stillness? Are you no longer able to enjoy it? Is it drowned out by all that human beings praise as their latest achievement? What has become of this world? Can the stillness of evening no longer move individuals to take themselves into another world in thought, to think differently, to feel differently than they do during the day? Is it not during the day that so much is demanded of them – and during which they themselves want to profit, to gather wealth, and to acquire possessions? Does the night no longer mean anything to them? Do they no longer enjoy the onset of evening? Are they no longer able to hear the wondrous language of God?

No, human beings do not hear it anymore, for those words are so fine. They themselves drown them out. What have they made of paradise? With their desire and will to possess, to have, to enjoy, they make themselves impenetrable to eternity. They immure themselves in a world of their own. Oh, pity for you, humankind, pity.

Human beings can no longer hear, no longer sense how the divine world exerts itself for them. They do not enjoy the calm of evening; they no longer experience the stillness of the night. Nor do they experience the dawning of day. What does the stillness of dawn mean to them? They no longer know it, they no longer have a relationship to this glorious, magnificent, beautiful nature. People of today do not know stillness anymore. And you know, the holy ones of heaven steer clear of noise; they are unable to make themselves heard in the noise. For we spirits of God are of an entirely different nature, our senses are much finer and not attuned to this noise.

Despite all this we try to support human beings and to help those who lend us an ear. We would like to say to them: play your part, and do not forget that heaven has opened itself and still maintains the connection. But people must change their way of thinking, they must refine their feelings. One must learn to appreciate the stillness of the forest again; one must again find time to go there and, in spirit, hear the quiet melody that the heavenly choirs let sound over this earth. In spirit one must again hear the heavenly song that rings out there. What have human beings done that they are no longer able to perceive all this ...

What can they do to perceive all this again? It is certainly possible. You have the joy and been granted the grace of being made aware of this in order that it may be imprinted on your consciousness once more: that heaven keeps the path open, but that it sets its conditions. You must reflect and give yourself the answer: “Who am I? Where do I come from? What is my task?” Can you give yourself an answer, and do you know that you are a child of God, that Christ, the King of the spirit world, brought humankind redemption, liberation, and opened heaven? If you know all this, you should also feel obliged to do your part, so that already in human life you again have a share of heaven.

You are being educated, and time and again you are told what happens to those souls who severely burden themselves. You have the opportunity to turn toward heaven. Must you, then, be concerned solely about your earthly bread in your world? There is also a spiritual bread, for earthly bread alone does not satisfy. This earthly bread – and everything else that belongs to it, all the other things that may belong to it – cannot make you happy. Spiritual bread, however, satisfies the soul and makes the whole human being happy.

Yes, dear brothers and sisters, you also have to work for this spiritual bread. Devout people who carry this God-consciousness within themselves should realize that in this world, too, they are God’s master builders. They have their tasks to fulfill in this mighty construction. Through the wish and will of God did the earth come into being. But take a moment to consider what the earth looks like today – what human beings have made, for their benefit on the one hand, to their detriment on the other. Just consider how much strife there is on earth: these wars, this misery, this hunger that some have to suffer – and the power and control that the others exert, how they oppress their fellow human beings. These wars – appalling ... What has become of this earth? It should have been a divine paradise, a forecourt of heaven. But wars rage, hunger prevails, there is misery ... Where is the eternity-consciousness in human beings? Miserable world.

And here you stand in this world, dear brother, dear sister. You will ask yourself what you can do. And I say: you are a master builder of the divine world. If you live with divine consciousness, you must see to it that you have appropriate material with which to build. This material must be of high spiritual value. I am not referring to your condensed matter. I am speaking figuratively; I mean the high spiritual quality within the human being. With this they must build.

You will of course understand that we do not suppose that the individual could start to remodel the whole world and bring about order. Oh, that would be an impossibility. But on a small scale, on the smallest scale, one must do that which will unfold on a large scale. One must, if one wants to build properly, also have good material. I would like to convey this spiritually: if you want to be a servant of God, then you must bring forth your noble feelings, and you must unfold them – you must place yourself in service to God in this manner. Above all, you must try to make it possible for heaven to speak to you. Try to understand what heaven has to say to you. When I say that heaven wants to speak to you, I of course mean that it is a spirit of God who guides you through life, who encourages you, who comforts you, who admonishes and punishes you when necessary.

Heaven must once again be able to speak to human beings. It has been doing so since time immemorial, but it is not understood. Just consider the glory, the colorful magnificence of these flowers. Do these flowers not also speak their language? It is soundless to you – but not to us. To us, these flowers have a rich vocabulary. You also make use of the spiritual language of these flowers when necessary ... They speak their own language, always in the right place. They bring joy to one person, comfort to another. They remind yet another person of something, as if to say, “Forget me not, I am still here. Let the flowers tell you.” Another person asks for forgiveness, for pardon – they themselves cannot say the words, the words do not pass their lips. So they use the spiritual language, which is much more meaningful than words from their mouth. The flowers shall say it; they shall ask for forgiveness here or there. They have their language, their wondrous language.

So, human beings can make use of flowers; they let the flowers do the talking. What do you imagine: is it only flowers that speak their own language? Heaven also has ways of speaking to human beings in its language. Each individual can be spoken to, but not everyone understands this fine, spiritual language. Our tones are lost in the noise that emanates from the human being themselves, from their soul; their egotism, their domineeringness emits such a noise that the word of God brought by the angels is lost and cannot be heard. One’s own soul is capable of emitting a din, which is unpleasant for the angels of heaven. We cannot do anything in such conditions. The noise destroys our word, our blessing, our will. So, we withdraw.

How nice it is to experience such a holy hour with you and with other holy spirits of heaven! There is quiet here in this hall, and your ears are attuned to us. One day [of this meditation week] has already passed, and you are on the way to forgetting the burdens of your everyday life. You have already settled into this atmosphere somewhat; you have already been drawn in by our current, we have already become one with each other – with a few exceptions. And because you have entered into this divine current, your soul will receive that which brings you happiness, gladness, and harmony. You feel uplifted, you have opened the doors and tried to look into heaven. Yes, you would like to call out, “Heaven, stoop down, embrace us” – and I say to you: it is heaven’s wish to stoop down and unite with this world. It is heaven’s wish.

If, by your own efforts, you make it possible this week to live in this God-consciousness and eternity-consciousness, the holy ones of heaven will be able to draw close to you. They will attend to you, so that you may hear their words and sense them. They will be near you during the day, but they will also utilize the stillness of the night. They will make the most of this wonderful stillness of the night in order to enter into conversation with you – not with the outer human being, but rather with that which is eternal in you, that which lives, that which unites you with me, with us. We want to speak with each individual here, because everyone here – without exception – has been given a special spirit of God for this week.

Our brother Joseph has explained to you that when people gather for worship, the angels of heaven are in attendance, for they also wish to experience the divine service. I am conducting divine service with you, and in this divine service each one of you is your own priest. If the holy ones of heaven utilize the stillness of the night, then you will benefit from it. In this manner the heavenly beings desire to guide human beings, and they wish to make them understand that there are two worlds: the divine world on the one hand, and the world of materialism on the other, which binds and chains human beings to itself. This world generates so much noise and makes it impossible to hear the higher word, because one is walled in by the wall of materialism that one has erected around oneself through one’s own will, through one’s own way of thinking.

So, one is one’s own master builder in every respect. One can be a master builder for one’s own well-being, for the well-being of others, in order to render service in God’s plan of creation. But one can also be a master builder for that other world: for the world of evil, of animosity, of domineeringness, of argumentativeness, of ambition, of greed. Yes, one can also work for this. Are you now able to understand that there are people who have such tendencies in small or in large measure? But even a small measure is enough to prevent one from being able to feel and hear in the true, higher sense. The interior of the soul generates noise, and one is no longer able to hear the fine tones from the world of God.

So it is a human being’s task to constantly ask themselves where they stand, how far they have progressed in their spiritual development. You know: a human being’s honesty is something very precious indeed, because not everyone knows how to be so honest with themselves in order to reach this insight and to recognize where they stand. Indeed, so many people think they are much better than they actually are. This also has to be said.

We are well aware of how difficult it is for human beings today. The quiet has been taken from them – they no longer hear the word of God, they no longer hear the heavenly choirs’ quiet melody that is sung in the stillness of the night, when evening comes and when people should direct their thoughts upward. They no longer hear God’s word.

What is to be done? What is the state of humankind’s faith today? Need I say it? So many have walled themselves in ... It is first of all necessary to break through this wall. Someone must come and make it understandable for you again. You should reflect on the fact that there is not merely a human consciousness, that one does not possess human abilities and accomplish tremendous feats entirely by oneself, but that all this is possible only when God says yes to it.

All that is given to humankind can represent a test for each individual, what they accomplish and what they do, for their whole life is framed by tests. And they must therefore make an effort, they must work their way out of their world in which they have immured themselves. They must try to set aside this human way of thinking, which is not at all pleasing to God, which is not at all what it once was. Human beings take such delight in the gloss of this world; they live in this gloss, and some of them founder.

That is why it is important to break out of this way of thinking, break out! You must cultivate God-consciousness, so that God’s favor may rest on you and on the community. That is what it really comes down to. You do not know what is being discussed in the highest heavens; the Redeemer cares for humankind, and he is concerned about those who do not want to believe. But those who have a sincere faith will be strengthened in order that they continue to build, continue to unfold, so that from small beginnings arises that which is pleasing to God, that which must come to be. It flows forth from a source and expands in all directions. But this also requires time.

Yesterday I spoke about true worship, and today I explained to you what it means to carry God-consciousness within yourselves and to put it into practice – that it is now a matter of hearing the word of God again. After all, the Christian messages are proclaimed to you in the rhythm of the year. These messages should give all of Christendom this clarity again and bring it this spiritual food anew. Christendom should once again be able to hold fast to these messages. The fact that this is not yet possible is something you experience for yourselves: you also make these messages known outside of your community, but they are not understood; people do not know what to do with them. So, one must take Christians back to the beginning. One must be able to tell them something about the beginnings of divine life, about God’s creation, about the beginning of humankind – its existence, its workings, its purpose. One has to go back to the beginning. It is not too late for this.

Yes, my dear brothers and sisters, you are given time this week to turn inward, to enter into conversation with yourself. You have the opportunity to create order in your innermost being. If you manage to bring order to what is necessary, if this order is reestablished, you will certainly feel better again. Because even the person who strives toward God can end up in a muddle from time to time. But it must be possible for them to find clarity again. Human beings must become aware of their God-consciousness and of the position they occupy in spirit. They must be conscious of the task they have to fulfill, and realize the necessity of experiencing the soul’s stillness within themselves. They must not emit noise from their soul, from their heart, from their mind.

To enjoy the soul’s stillness means to listen within. The holy ones of heaven want to draw close to human beings in order to speak with them, in order to guide them. They want to make them feel: “I am here. I stand by your side. I guide you. I carry you through life. Even when you are sick, I stand by you. I help you carry your sorrows. You ought to feel that I am here.”

Yes, the spiritually oriented human being should reach this stage. One should not laugh at those who have a spirit of God, who are led by a spirit of God. One should much rather savor the soul’s stillness in order to hear, because every person can be spoken to. But it must become still within them. They must not generate a din by being high-handed, domineering, argumentative, egotistical, jealous; for it is then impossible to hear.

You, however, want to walk with us, you want to come with us. Heaven has opened itself. Divine power flows down from heaven, it flows and flows down to you, and it desires to carry you along in this current. You are to be invigorated by this divinity, you are to be uplifted in your thinking, but you are also to recover in body, for divine service is taking place here. Deeply nurture your faith, uplift yourself in spirit, and in spirit say:

“Take me up, divine power,
permeate me, invigorate me.
Divine current, carry me along.
Let me never forget what eternity is.
Let me never forget the responsibility I carry
in divine consciousness.
Carry me, current of God, through life.
Carry me back when my time has come,
take me to my place, current of God,
lead me and set me down at the feet of my King.”

This is how you can meditate, this is how to raise yourself. To have God-consciousness within is something you may still have to acquire. But the willingness alone, the devout wish to be carried along by the current of God, helps bring this about and gives you the strength that enables you to assert yourself in life in a higher sense.

Dear brothers and sisters, return now, experience and rest in the stillness of the night. Receive the blessing, the divine word that is spoken over each one of you. Even if it is not heard by everyone, be glad to be included in the current of God. And when I speak such words to you, I do not mean that you should now be sad and are allowed no joy. Glad souls have joy within themselves – a fine, beautiful joy. Glad souls also possess a loveliness. We angels, those of us in attendance here, we want to embrace you. For you want to belong to us, to walk with us. The angels want to proclaim the word of God; they want to say to each individual:

“You are God’s creature,
you are God’s property,
you are God’s heir.
Prove yourself worthy of your position.”

So, may God’s blessing envelop you all. May you all become glad, content, happy, healthy. For this was divine service. God bless you.
